Custom music
Terms for paid commissions
These terms apply when you hire me for paid custom music. If a written quote or agreement for your project says something different, that document controls for that project.
What this covers
Original music composed or produced for you — for example custom songs, themes, beds, stings, or similar work. IT services and informal questions are not covered here.
Quotes & agreement
Before I start creative work, we agree in writing (email is fine) on scope, fee, deliverables, rough timeline, and what rights you need. When you accept the quote and pay any deposit we agreed on, that counts as the contract for the project.
Payment
Unless we agree otherwise in the quote, I typically ask for a deposit to book the work and the remainder when the agreed deliverables are ready — or in milestones for larger projects. I’ll specify amounts, currency, and how to pay in the quote.
Delivery
I deliver files in the formats we agreed (for example WAV and/or MP3). Timelines in a quote are good-faith estimates; if something delays delivery, I’ll tell you as soon as I can.
Revisions
Your quote includes a stated number of revision rounds for the agreed scope — small tweaks to get the track right. If you change direction, add major new sections, or ask for work outside the original brief, I may need to quote extra time and cost.
Cancellation & refunds
- Before I start substantial work: You can cancel; any deposit may be non-refundable if we agreed that upfront, otherwise I’ll refund what’s fair for work not yet done.
- After work is underway: The deposit usually covers time and scheduling already committed. Refunds for the balance depend on how much was completed; I’ll propose something reasonable if we need to stop.
- Nothing here limits rights you may have under applicable consumer law.
Rights & usage
Composer credit and how you may use the music (personal, commercial, video, app, etc.) depend on what we put in the quote — including whether it’s a license or a full buyout. Until we agree otherwise in writing, I keep underlying rights in the composition; you get the usage we agreed for your project.
Changes to this page
I may update this page from time to time. The terms that matter for your project are the ones in the quote or agreement we had when you booked that project.
Questions? Get in touch — I’m happy to align on scope and rights before we lock anything in.
